For me this gag isn’t so much about Canadian weather than about the idea of Chris Hadfield doing something so extraordinary and treating it in such a mundane way. He’s in space for crying out loud, floating above the planet, can you imagine him looking at where he is and only thinking, “Wow, so glad I don’t have to shovel this year.” In reality this is the exact opposite of what is happening. I am positive he is very grateful and humbled by his experience on the ISS, and I believe he is doing a fantastic job of spreading awareness of both his mission, and of the tiny marble we live on.
